Hecla Receives Innovation Award 

Hecla received the 2022 Robert E. Murray Innovation Award for pioneering the Underhand Closed Bench (UCB) mining method at its Lucky Friday Mine in Idaho. SME recognizes companies implementing innovative processes to advance the mining industry. Hecla has received a U.S. patent for the UCB mining method.

Hecla Acquires Canada’s Largest and Highest-Grade Silver Reserve

Hecla acquires Alexco Resource Corp., including the Keno Hill property located in Canada’s Yukon Territory. The Keno Hill Silver District is one of the highest-grade silver deposits in the world.

Hecla Achieves Record Revenues and High U.S. Silver Reserves

  • Hecla had record revenues of $807.5 million and second highest free cash flow in Company history
  • Hecla’s exploration program delivered the highest U.S. silver reserves for the Company in more than 20 years

Hecla Sets Company Record

  • Hecla records an annual revenue of $691.9 million, the highest in Company history.
  • Hecla’s All Injury Frequency Rate (AIFR) reached 1.22, the lowest in Company history.

Lucky Friday Recognized for Safety & Stewardship

  • The Lucky Friday is named a 2018 Sentinels of Safety award winner by the National Mining Association (NMA) for its stellar safety record. The mine is also named a “Pollution Prevention Champion” by the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (IDEQ) for its environmental stewardship practices.

Hecla Acquires Significant Gold Assets in Nevada

  • Hecla acquires all outstanding shares of Klondex Mines, a high-grade Nevada underground gold producer with three mines: Fire Creek, Midas and Hollister.

Hecla Expands Copper Assets

  • Hecla acquires Mines Management, Inc. to own 100% of the Montanore project in Sanders County near Libby, Montana. It complements Hecla’s other assets in the area, including the Troy Mine and Rock Creek deposit.

Mexico Operations Begin, Montana Expands

  • Hecla acquires Revett Mining Company, resulting in full ownership of the Rock Creek project in Sanders County near Noxon, Montana.

Hecla Owns 100% of the Casa Berardi Gold Mine

  • Hecla completes the transaction to acquire Aurizon Mines Ltd, resulting in full ownership of the Casa Berardi gold mine in Quebec, Canada.

Hecla Owns 100% of Greens Creek Mine

  • Hecla acquires the Rio Tinto subsidiaries that held an interest in the Greens Creek silver mine and joint venture located near Juneau, Alaska. When added to Hecla’s existing interest in the mine, Hecla claims 100% ownership of the Greens Creek joint venture.

Hecla Owns 100% of the Lucky Friday Expansion Area

  • Hecla now controls 100% of the Gold Hunter deposit, also known as the Lucky Friday Expansion Area, after completing acquisition from Independence Lead Mines Company.

A Merger & NYSE Listing

  • Hecla merges with Lucky Friday Silver-Lead Mines Company. After 49 years on the American Stock Exchange, Hecla is listed on the prestigious New York Stock Exchange.

Public Trading of Hecla Stock Begins

  • Hecla stock begins trading on the New York Curb Exchange – later the American Stock Exchange – on September 23, 1915.

Hecla Pays First Dividend

  • On July 5, 1900, Hecla pays its first dividend of 2¢ per share. By the end of the year, Hecla sells $229,550 worth of ore and pays $100,000 in dividends.

1898

Hecla is Incorporated

  • Hecla Mining Company is incorporated in Washington State on July 12, 1898. Amasa B. Campbell is voted president. Capitalized for one million shares with a par value of 25¢, Hecla’s stock rises within three months to 45¢ per share. Hecla’s management begins to buy up the claims adjacent to the Hecla lead mine, and Campbell exults, “The Hecla is developing into a wonderful mine.”

Hecla is Founded

  • Hecla Mining Company was founded in 1891 by Amasa Campbell, Patsy Clark and John Finch in Burke, Idaho, and was incorporated in the State of Idaho on October 14, 1891.

Hecla Mining Company was founded in 1891 in the Coeur d’Alene Mining District of Idaho’s Silver Valley, one of the largest silver producing districts in the world. More than 125 years later, Hecla, last of the district’s pioneer mining companies, is the largest primary silver producer in the United States.
