Phillips S. Baker, Jr., a director since 2001, has been our Chief Executive Officer since May 2003 and has served as our President since November 2001. He served as Hecla’s Chief Financial Officer from May 2001 to June 2003; Chief Operating Officer from November 2001 to May 2003; and Vice President from May 2001 to November 2001. He has also served as a Director of QEP Resources, Inc. (a leading independent natural gas and oil exploration and production company), since May 2010, as well as serving as a Director for Questar Corporation (a Western U.S. natural gas-focused exploration and production, interstate pipeline and local distribution company) from February 2004 through June 2010.
Lindsay A. Hall was appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer effective July 18, 2016. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Hall was Chief Financial Officer for Goldcorp Inc. from April 2006 to March 2016 and also Executive Vice President from March 2006 to March 2016. Mr. Hall served as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President for Placer Dome from November 2005 to February 2006. He served as Chief Financial Officer and Group Vice President at Duke Energy Corporation from January 2004 to October 2005 and also served as Vice President and Treasurer from June 2005 to October 2006. He was also Group Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Duke Energy Americas, of Duke Energy Corporation, from January 2005 to October 2005. Prior to that, beginning in 1985, Mr. Hall held various positions with Duke Energy with companies that later became part of Canada’s Westcoast Energy.
Lawrence P. Radford was appointed Senior Vice President – Operations in July 2013 and prior to that was Vice President – Operations from October 2011 to June 2013. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Radford was Vice President of South American Operations for Kinross Gold Corporation (a gold mining company) from April 2010 to September 2011. Mr. Radford held various other positions at Kinross from June 2007 to March 2010. Mr. Radford was General Manager for Barrick Gold Corporation (a gold mining company) at its Cowal operations in West Wyalong, NSW, Australia from January 2006 to May 2007. Mr. Radford also held various positions with Barrick from 1990 to December 2005. Prior to that, he was Planning and Project Engineer for Nerco Delamar Company from 1988 to 1989 and Mining Engineer for Coeur d’Alene Mines Corporation from 1984 to 1988.
Dr. Dean W.A. McDonald was appointed Senior Vice President – Exploration in July 2013 and prior to that was Vice President – Exploration from August 2006 to June 2013. Dr. McDonald was also appointed Senior Vice President – Exploration of our Canadian subsidiary, Hecla Canada Ltd., in July 2013 and was Vice President – Exploration from January 2007 to June 2013. Prior to joining Hecla, Dr. McDonald was Vice President Exploration and Business Development for Committee Bay Resource Ltd. (a Canadian-based exploration and development company) from 2003 to August 2006 and Exploration Manager at Miramar Mining Company/Northern Orion Explorations (an exploration company) from 1996 to 2003.
David C. Sienko was appointed Vice President and General Counsel in January 2010. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Sienko was a partner of, and practiced law with K&L Gates LLP (a law firm) and its predecessor, Bell, Boyd & Lloyd, LLP, from 2004 to January 2010, where he specialized in counseling public and private entities on compliance with securities laws and trading market rules, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. Mr. Sienko was also an associate at Bell, Boyd & Lloyd, LLP from 2000 to 2004 and an associate in the Corporate and Securities Section of Locke Lord LLP (a law firm) from 1998 to 2000, as well as an attorney with the Division of Enforcement at the U.S. Securities Exchange Commission from 1995 to 1998.
Rob Brown was appointed Vice President – Corporate Development in January 2016 and prior to that was a consultant for Hecla from March 2015 to December 2015. Mr. Brown was also appointed Vice President – Corporate Development of our Canadian subsidiary, Hecla Canada Ltd., in January 2016. Prior to joining Hecla, Mr. Brown was President of Septemus Consulting Ltd. from October 2011 to December 2015. He also served as Vice President – Corporate Development for Fortuna Silver Mines from May 2012 to October 2014 and was Chief Executive Officer, President and Director of Calibre Mining Corporation from March 2007 to June 2011. Prior to that, Mr. Brown was Manager, Exploration Business Development and Canadian Exploration for Barrick Gold Corporation from February 2003 to March 2007, and also held various positions with Barrick from 1999 to February 2003.
Luke Russell was appointed Vice President – External Affairs in January 2014. Prior to joining Hecla, Mr. Russell was Senior Vice President Environment and Community of Coeur Mining (a mining company) from 2012 to 2013, Vice President Environmental Services from 2006 to 2011, and Director Environmental Services from 2004 to 2006 (and also from 1995 to 2000). Mr. Russell served as Coeur d’Alene Basin Project Manager for the State of Idaho, Department of Environmental Quality, from 2002 to 2004. Prior to that, Mr. Russell worked at Homestake Mining Company as Environmental Manager from 2000 to 2001 and Corporate Manager of Environmental Affairs from 1993 to 1995, and also held previous roles in environmental and governmental affairs with Kennecott Corporation from 1992 to 1993, FMC Gold Company from 1990 to 1992, and Wharf Resources Inc. from 1986 to 1990.
Mike Westerlund was appointed Vice President – Investor Relations of our Canadian subsidiary, Hecla Canada Ltd. in February 2013. Prior to joining Hecla, Mr. Westerlund was Vice President, Investor Relations and Corporate Communications for Peregrine Diamonds Ltd. from 2010 to 2012. Concurrently, he served as Vice President, Investor Relations and Corporate Communications for Peregrine Metals Ltd. (copper, gold), which was acquired by Stillwater Mining Co. in 2011. Mr. Westerlund was Director, Corporate Development for Polaris Minerals Corporation (construction aggregates) from 2006 to 2010. He also held the position of Manager, Investor Relations for Ashton Mining of Canada Inc. (diamonds) from 2003 to 2006. Mr. Westerlund began his investor relations career at Ballard Power Systems (fuel cell technology), where he served as Senior Investor Relations and Treasury Associate from 1999 to 2003. Mr. Westerlund also held several positions with TD Bank from 1992 to 1999.
George A. Sturgis was appointed Vice President for Project Development in July 2008. Prior to his employment with Hecla, Mr. Sturgis was owner and founder of Triple Constraint Solutions, a firm specializing in delivering project management services to the mining industry from 2003 to June 2008. Mr. Sturgis served as the Director for Project Development at Stillwater Mining Company from 1999 to 2002. Mr. Sturgis also held various positions with engineering, and construction management firms from 1979 to 1998 including Project Manager, Resident Construction Manager, Project Director, and Vice President – Taiwan Operations.
Mark Board was appointed Vice President – Technical Services in the Idaho corporate office in October 2016. Prior to that, Mr. Board was Vice President – Technology & Innovation from June 2014 to September 2016 and Corporate Director, Geotechnical Engineering from June 2012 to May 2014. Prior to his employment with Hecla, he worked at Itasca Consulting Group for 25 years as a mining and rock mechanics consultant to mining companies worldwide. Mr. Board is a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and has over 35 years of geotechnical engineering experience.
Keith Malone was appointed Vice President – General Manager of the company’s Greens Creek mine in Alaska in January 2017. Prior to that, he was the Greens Creek mine manager from March 2014 to December 2016. Prior to joining Hecla, he was the General Manager for Waterton Global Hollister mine (2013), the Technical Services Manager for the Tower Hill Mines Livengood Project, PFS design on the Livengood Gold Project (2010-2013), Mine Superintendent at Teck Resources Pogo mine (2005 construction and start up until July 2010), Mill Superintendent at Teck Resources Red Dog mine (1999 – 2004), Mine Manager at ASARCO Tennessee Zinc Young mine (1996-1998), and various positions at other Teck Resources mines (1982-1995). He has over 33 years of mine engineering, operating, and process experience.
Clayr Alexander was appointed Vice President – General Manager of the company’s Lucky Friday mine in Idaho in June 2014. Prior to joining Hecla, Mr. Alexander was Director – Delivery Projects, Technology & Innovation with Rio Tinto (March 2012 to May 2014). Prior to that, Mr. Alexander was Deputy General Manager and Project Manager with Kinross’ Far East Russia Operations (August 2007 to September 2008 and June 2010 to February 2012), President and CEO for Sutter Gold Mining (October 2008 to October 2009), and Mine Manager for Stillwater Mining Company’s East Boulder Operations among a number of other positions (1985 to October 2006). Mr. Alexander has also provided independent consulting for various mining and engineering companies during his 37 years of mine management experience.
Alain Grenier was appointed to the position of Vice President – General Manager, Casa Berardi Mine effective January 1, 2015. Prior to that, he was General Superintendent Operation from June 2014 to December 2014. Prior to joining Hecla, Mr. Grenier was Underground and Technical Services Superintendent for Nyrstar’s Langlois Mine (February 2014 to May 2014), Mine Manager for Richmont Mines’ Island Gold Mine (August 2012 to December 2013), Project Manager for Iamgold Corporation‘s Westwood Project (October 2011 to July 2012), General Manager (Interim) for Iamgold’s Niobec Mine (January 2011 to September 2011), and Operation Manager at Iamgold’s Mouska Mine (2004 to 2010). Mr. Grenier, an engineer, began his career in 1985 as a miner and has had many operations and engineering roles during his 30 years of experience in the mining industry.
