The Hecla Charitable Foundation was established in 2007 to provide grants and disburse funds for educational and charitable purposes to qualifying 501(c)(3) organizations. The Foundation’s mission is to enhance the quality of life and to promote the social, environmental, and economic sustainability and development of those communities where Hecla has operations and activities. Within this overall mission, the Foundation intends to focus its efforts in four areas: education, community programs, youth activities, and health services.
The Foundation has awarded $534,810 in grants since its inception. In 2010, the Foundation contributed $166,070 and in 2011, the Foundation contributed $174,810 to various organizations..

application information
Grant applicants must submit a Grant Application Request including a current IRS tax-exempt determination letter.
Grants may be awarded in full or in part. Requests most likely to receive favorable consideration range from less than $1,000 up to $5,000, although in rare circumstances larger amounts may be awarded.
A grant request may result in rejection, deferral for future consideration or approval at full or partial funding levels. When awarded, the amount an applicant receives is based on a number of factors, including the magnitude of the project, the funds available for distribution, the level of the Foundation's interest, competition for funding, relevance or connection to Hecla employees and families in the affected community, and other considerations.
Before actual submission of an application, you are strongly encouraged to contact a local Hecla employee and discuss your needs. Grant applications that are in turn recommended to the Foundation by Hecla employees in the community have a greater chance of success.
