Phillips S. Baker, Jr., a director since 2001, has been our Chief Executive Officer since May 2003 and has served as our President since November 2001. He served as Hecla’s Chief Financial Officer from May 2001 to June 2003; Chief Operating Officer from November 2001 to May 2003; and Vice President from May 2001 to November 2001. He has also served as a Director of QEP Resources, Inc. (a leading independent natural gas and oil exploration and production company), since May 2010, as well as serving as a Director for Questar Corporation (a Western U.S. natural gas-focused exploration and production, interstate pipeline and local distribution company) from February 2004 through June 2010.
Lauren Roberts was appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in August 2019. Prior to rejoining Hecla, Mr. Roberts was Chief Operating Officer for Kinross Gold Corporation from October 2016 to April 2019, Sr. Vice President, Corporate Development from November 2015 to October 2016; Regional Vice President, Americas from October 2013 to November 2015; Regional Vice President, South America from April 2013 to October 2013; Regional Vice President, North America from June 2011 to April 2013; and held other various management positions from April 2004 to June 2011. Mr. Roberts also held various positions at Barrick Gold Corporation from November 1996 to April 2004. He previously worked for Hecla in various roles from January 1989 to November 1996. Mining engineer with over 30 years’ experience in the industry.
Lindsay A. Hall was appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer effective July 18, 2016. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Hall was Chief Financial Officer for Goldcorp Inc. from April 2006 to March 2016 and also Executive Vice President from March 2006 to March 2016. Mr. Hall served as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President for Placer Dome from November 2005 to February 2006. He served as Chief Financial Officer and Group Vice President at Duke Energy Corporation from January 2004 to October 2005 and also served as Vice President and Treasurer from June 2005 to October 2006. He was also Group Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Duke Energy Americas, of Duke Energy Corporation, from January 2005 to October 2005. Prior to that, beginning in 1985, Mr. Hall held various positions with Duke Energy with companies that later became part of Canada’s Westcoast Energy.
David C. Sienko was appointed Vice President and General Counsel in January 2010. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Sienko was a partner of, and practiced law with K&L Gates LLP (a law firm) and its predecessor, Bell, Boyd & Lloyd, LLP, from 2004 to January 2010, where he specialized in counseling public and private entities on compliance with securities laws and trading market rules, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. Mr. Sienko was also an associate at Bell, Boyd & Lloyd, LLP from 2000 to 2004 and an associate in the Corporate and Securities Section of Locke Lord LLP (a law firm) from 1998 to 2000, as well as an attorney with the Division of Enforcement at the U.S. Securities Exchange Commission from 1995 to 1998.
Rob Brown was appointed Vice President – Corporate Development in January 2016 and prior to that was a consultant for Hecla from March 2015 to December 2015. Mr. Brown was also appointed Vice President – Corporate Development of our Canadian subsidiary, Hecla Canada Ltd., in January 2016. Prior to joining Hecla, Mr. Brown was President of Septemus Consulting Ltd. from October 2011 to December 2015. He also served as Vice President – Corporate Development for Fortuna Silver Mines from May 2012 to October 2014 and was Chief Executive Officer, President and Director of Calibre Mining Corporation from March 2007 to June 2011. Prior to that, Mr. Brown was Manager, Exploration Business Development and Canadian Exploration for Barrick Gold Corporation from February 2003 to March 2007, and also held various positions with Barrick from 1999 to February 2003.
Luke Russell was appointed Vice President – External Affairs in January 2014. Prior to joining Hecla, Mr. Russell was Senior Vice President Environment and Community of Coeur Mining (a mining company) from 2012 to 2013, Vice President Environmental Services from 2006 to 2011, and Director Environmental Services from 2004 to 2006 (and also from 1995 to 2000). Mr. Russell served as Coeur d’Alene Basin Project Manager for the State of Idaho, Department of Environmental Quality, from 2002 to 2004. Prior to that, Mr. Russell worked at Homestake Mining Company as Environmental Manager from 2000 to 2001 and Corporate Manager of Environmental Affairs from 1993 to 1995, and also held previous roles in environmental and governmental affairs with Kennecott Corporation from 1992 to 1993, FMC Gold Company from 1990 to 1992, and Wharf Resources Inc. from 1986 to 1990.
Mr. Clary was appointed Vice President – Human Resources and Senior Counsel in February 2020. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Clary served in various roles for the company including Director – Human Resources and Senior Counsel from 2016 to January 2020 and Senior Counsel from 2006 to 2015. Prior to that, he held a number of positions at the Company’s operations in both Idaho and Nevada, including Controller/HR Manager at the Lucky Friday mine when he first joined Hecla in 1994. Prior to joining Hecla, Mr. Clary worked as a Certified Public Accountant for Ernst & Young and Deloitte & Touche.
Clayr Alexander was appointed Vice President – General Manager of the company’s Lucky Friday mine in Idaho in June 2014. Prior to joining Hecla, Mr. Alexander was Director – Delivery Projects, Technology & Innovation with Rio Tinto (March 2012 to May 2014). Prior to that, Mr. Alexander was Deputy General Manager and Project Manager with Kinross’ Far East Russia Operations (August 2007 to September 2008 and June 2010 to February 2012), President and CEO for Sutter Gold Mining (October 2008 to October 2009), and Mine Manager for Stillwater Mining Company’s East Boulder Operations among a number of other positions (1985 to October 2006). Mr. Alexander has also provided independent consulting for various mining and engineering companies during his 37 years of mine management experience.
Brian Erickson was appointed Vice President – General Manager of the company’s Greens Creek mine in Alaska in August 2019. Prior to that, he was Greens Creek Surface Operations Manager from September 2010 to July 2019; Maintenance Manager from October 2018 to August 2019, and Mine Manager from April 2008 to August 2010. Prior to joining Hecla, he held various positions at the Greens Creek mine, including Mine Superintendent, for Kennecott Greens Creek Mining Company (December 1996 – 2008) and Underground Production Geologist for Sunshine Mining & Refining Co. (1996). Mr. Erickson has over 20 years of production and maintenance of operating mines and geologist experience in the mining industry.
Carlos Aguiar was appointed Vice President – General Manager, San Sebastian mine effective April 2016. Prior to that, he was project manager for the San Sebastian milling operation from July 2015 to March 2016. Mr. Aguiar has held a number of positions at the company’s operations in Mexico, Idaho and Venezuela, including Processing Superintendent at the La Choya mine in Mexico where he first joined Hecla in 1996. He began his career in 1995 as a metallurgist and has over 20 years of experience in engineering and management in the mining industry.
Alain Grenier was appointed to the position of Vice President – General Manager, Casa Berardi Mine effective January 1, 2015. Prior to that, he was General Superintendent Operation from June 2014 to December 2014. Prior to joining Hecla, Mr. Grenier was Underground and Technical Services Superintendent for Nyrstar’s Langlois Mine (February 2014 to May 2014), Mine Manager for Richmont Mines’ Island Gold Mine (August 2012 to December 2013), Project Manager for Iamgold Corporation‘s Westwood Project (October 2011 to July 2012), General Manager (Interim) for Iamgold’s Niobec Mine (January 2011 to September 2011), and Operation Manager at Iamgold’s Mouska Mine (2004 to 2010). Mr. Grenier, an engineer, began his career in 1985 as a miner and has had many operations and engineering roles during his 30 years of experience in the mining industry.
Kevin Shiell was appointed Vice President and General Manager – Nevada Operations effective July 20, 2018. Prior to joining Hecla, he was General Manager – Midas and Hollister Mines with Klondex Gold & Silver (January 2017 to June 2018) and General Manager – Fire Creek Project (November 2015 to December 2016). Prior to that, Mr. Shiell was a consultant for Butte Highlands Gold Project (May 2015 to October 2015), Vice President – Operations COO for Mojave Desert Minerals (2014 – 2015), held several positions with Stillwater Mining Company, the latest being Vice President – Mine Operations (1999 – 2014), Pre-production Superintendent at the Ken Snyder Mine for Dynatec Corporation (1998 – 1999), General Manager at the Gold Road Mine for Addwest Minerals (1996 – 1998), Mine Foreman for Echo Bay Minerals (1996), and Mine Foreman and Miner for Hecla Mining Company (1979 – 1995). He is currently serving as a director for New Jersey Mining Company (2017 – current). He has over 32 years of experience in various aspects of operations, mine site construction/infrastructure, development, production and maintenance of operating mines, underground mining and mining methodology.
Eric Hill, Vice President – General Manager, Technical Services, Hecla Limited
Eric Hill was appointed Vice President – General Manager of the company’s Corporate Technical Services team in May 2020. Prior to joining Hecla, Mr. Hill was with Kinross Gold, most recently as Vice President – Chile Projects from October 2018 to April 2020, Vice President & General Manager Fort Knox from August 2013 to September 2018, Operations Manager Fort Knox from May 2012 to July 2013, and Technical Services Manager Fort Knox from March 2011 to April 2012. He held previous leadership and operational roles with Kinross from 1997 to 2011, Santa Fe Pacific Gold from 1994 to 1997, AMAX Gold from 1990 to 1994. Mr. Hill, an engineer, has over 30 years of mining experience in various aspects of metallurgy, ore processing, mine engineering, open-pit operation, and project development.
