Conductivity, or the ability of a material to transmit energy, is an attribute common to most metals. There are different types of conductivity, including electrical, thermal, and acoustical conductivity. Silver is the most electrically conductive element, and it is also has the highest thermal conductivity of any element. This is why silver is used in electronic components such as wires, switches, and printed circuit boards. And because silver is easy to manipulate without breaking, it is ideal for micro-electronics devices such as smartphones, where it can be bent and squeezed into tiny spaces while remaining intact. Learn more about how silver is used in electronics from the Silver Institute.
