We know that instilling safety awareness behavior is fundamental to making our workplace as safe as possible, which is why Hecla invests in training, technology, and workforce development programs that focus on safety first. In 2019, our employees received more than 59,000 hours of health and safety training.
Additionally, in 2019, four of Hecla’s operations participated in mine rescue competitions. These regional training contests help train and prepare our mine rescue teams and individual members for treacherous emergency response operations. For the second year, the Hecla Lucky Friday Mine Rescue Team earned first place in the 2019 Central Mine Rescue Competition, and the Hecla Greens Creek Mine Rescue Team took second.
